Quicken Loans Celebrates Women’s History Month

In 1987, Congress passed a law designating March as Women’s History Month. Petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, this month observes the vital role of women in American history, culture and society.
We celebrate Women’s History Month with a video highlighting women leaders in Detroit. Produced by our AmazeU team in partnership with the Diversity and Inclusion team at Quicken Loans, the video is part of a series promoting the contributions and achievements from people of various backgrounds. Last month’s video celebrated Black History Month .
This Women’s History Month video features a quote from Harriet Beecher Stowe, an American abolitionist and author (“Uncle Tom’s Cabin ” ), who dedicated her life to the pursuit of equality.
“Never give up,” asserts Stowe, “for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.”
The women featured in the video, all leaders in their fields, spoke on equality and opportunity, stating the importance of diversity and collaboration in the workplace as well as taking authority over one’s life.
“I believe in the equality of all sexes,” says KimArie Yowell, senior director of talent at Quicken Loans. “Everybody has the right to make a decision about what they’re going to do.”
Kelli Coleman, co-owner of The TEN Nail Bar, the first dedicated nail care destination in downtown Detroit, spoke from a more personal standpoint.
“A large part of my purpose is to empower women and to collaborate and be supportive of women, rather than competitive,” she said. “I always want to be a part of businesses that are built for or support women.”
Roslyn Karamoko, founder of Detroit is The New Black, a clothing brand that promotes an optimistic message of the outlook of the future of Detroit, asserts the importance of community.
“Women business leaders [are] different because they have that sensitivity to community and that connectivity to people,” she said.
Quicken Loans is proud and supportive of the women who seek to move Detroit forward, both economically and socially. Please enjoy the video as we celebrate Women’s History Month and the impact of women leaders in the city of Detroit as well as our country.
